A note from Mike, our founder
The moment
everything changed.
I went to primary and secondary schools where most lessons were taught in Chinese, and I had little chance to use English outside the classroom. Learning English meant following a textbook, listening to a teacher explain words and sentences, and waiting for feedback on my writing. As far as I knew, that was how you learned English.
Then, in secondary school, I tried my first English-learning app. I was amazed. I could learn new words, put sentences together and even practise speaking, all on a digital device. I could see myself making progress, and I wanted to keep going.
So I started exploring. I used different tools to build my vocabulary, read articles, practise listening and do dictation. I chose things that interested me and suited my level. When something was difficult, I could listen again, look it up or take a little more time. Gradually, I found a way of learning that worked for me.
Eventually, I was reading English newspapers fluently. I was thrilled by how much I could understand, and by how much more there was to discover.
What stayed with me was that I could do all this at a cost I could afford. I could learn at my own pace, focus on what I needed and make real progress. It changed what I thought education could offer. And I wanted more students to have that same chance.
That’s why I started SAVANTIA.
We’re starting with IELTS Academic writing, for students working towards further education who need guidance they can afford. IELTS can mean much more than an exam result. It can help you get into university, study in another country and meet people you might never otherwise have met. I want to help students take that next step.
Whatever your current IELTS level, I want SAVANTIA to help you understand what to work on, why it matters and how to practise. Good guidance should suit the way you learn and help you build the skills to improve on your own.
Technology changed the way I learned. Now I want to help more students discover what they can do when learning works for them. That’s what I’m building SAVANTIA for.
